  27. CDROMs aren't cheap to make, really.  They're cheap per-copy, but
  28. they are very capital intensive.  With floppy-based distribution,
  29. we can re-write the disks when we upgrade or fix a bug.  With CDs,
  30. you throw them away, and each one is a minimum $1 mistake.  Now,
  31. if you had a crate of $1 bills, and you noticed a flaw on one
  32. of them, would you want to throw them all away?  :-)  All of
  33. InterChange, zipped, fits on one 1.44 floppy at this time.

  35. Then there's the argument that people don't like to be nickeled
  36. and dimed.  By bundling everything in one package, we avoid
  37. the question of whether it makes more sense to charge for the
  38. Wavefront converter because Wavefront charges so much for their
  39. product, when in fact our customers probably don't own Wavefront,
  40. and are instead planning on converting models from Avalon or
  41. moving their 3DS or LW files to a friend's or client's Wavefront.

  43. And secure encryption is too much time, hassle, and risk.
  44. If anything, I've considered a freeware version of InterChange
  45. that includes only freeware file formats.

  47. CDROM might make more sense if we sold oodles of InterChange, like
  48. hundreds or thousands per month.  I don't think sales will be that 
  49. rapid.

  51. For that matter, I'm sure LightWave for Windows will ship on
  52. floppy as well as CDROM, perhaps a half-dozen floppies for
  53. the program itself and Win32s, plus the CDROM of scenes and
  54. other "content" that is easier to debug than a large program.
